Hamilton crush Jed's hopes
The match started with the home team playing with the strong wind blowing down the Laing Bent Pitch. The home team were rewarded for some early pleasure with Stand off McLeish converted a penalty in the 4th minute. Jed struck back after 10 minutes after some good work by the forwards to provide quick ball allowing our backs to move the ball from one end of the pitch to the other for David Gobby to score in the corner. Hamilton replied after 20 minutes for McLeish to convert another penalty. Jed then had Gobby yellow carded for the last 10 minutes of the first half, the home team capitalised on this when they scored a converted try which was quickly followed by a penalty taking the half time score to 16 – 5.
Jed started the second half with a full side and scored quickly when James Hogg rounded off a fine move to score after 5 minutes this was converted by Ewan Scott. The wind advantage that Jed were expecting quickly disappeared as the match went on a couple of long range penalty efforts from Scott narrowly missed the mark one coming off the bar the other agonisingly wide. The home side came more into the game as the wind dropped and the time ticking away after some scrum pressure on the Jed line full back Wilson crashed over for a try.
Jed then camped on the home teams line for the remaining 10 minutes but credit to the Hamilton defence which had looked well organised all match held firm to prevent Jed any bonus points, final score Hamilton 21 – Jed-Forest 12
Jed team 15 James Hogg, 14 Chris Gallon, 13 Robert Hogg, 12 Ewan Scott, 11 David Gobby, 10 Nua Fono-Hunt, 9 Ross Goodfellow, 1 Andy Ions, 2 Scott Raeburn, 3 David Grieve, 4 Glen Young, 5 Neil Cook, 6 Gary Elder, 8 Michael Weekley, 7 Donald Grieve, Subs, Alan Frame, John Szkudro, Kevin Amos, Jack Sudlow, Ryan Miller. Ryan was the only one not to get on.
The players appreciated the traveling support and were disappointed to come away without any points in a game that was there for the taking.
