A poor start seen Jed 14 – 0 down after 5 minutes after the Stew Mel 7 broke through only to be stopped by desperate scramble defence but after several more phases Smellie smashed over for the first try converted by Haining. Stew Mel extended the lead to 14 points when Full Back Liam Steele broke the line and put his winger away under the posts. After this Jed woke up and after several spoiled lineouts in the Smellie 22, Lewis Young scored in the corner only for the referee to overrule the touch judge to deny Jed the try. Several minutes later from a scrum on the Smellie 5 Metre line, Ross Goodfellow went over in the same corner but this was chalked off as the referee ran into Goody over the line and called interference. From the reset scrum Smellie were penalised for offside infront of the posts and Iain Chisholm converted the penalty to make the Score 14-3 to Stew Mel.

Jed started to dominate the game both upfront and outwide with Robert Hogg and Nua Fono-Hunt keeping the Smellie defence on their toes. The resulting scrum ended with a try in the blind side corner for the stew mel winger.

A turn over from the kick off seen Fono-Hunt make a half break to offload to Elder who carried well. The ball was recycled and quick hands from the backs put Lewis Young away down the stand side who gave the scoring pass to Chisholm to score in the corner. Chisholm converted his own try.

A kick off catch and clearance followed by a Glen Young line out steal had Stew Mel pinned in their own 22. Jed kept up the pressure in the Stew Mel half and a last knock on gave Jed the win.

The forwards were superb in the set piece and the backs hands were slick. With the ground hardening up Jed played at a pace that is hard to cope with for any team.
