Messy Win at Home for the 2s
A good day for rugby, but probably one of the ugliest games the 2nds have had all season. With the 1st team not having a game, many players had to fight for a call up to the Mighty 2s, but only a few of the 1sts subs made it thru the grueling selection process. And Oli 'Nae Hands' Robertson made his season debut with the forwards at 2nd row since Keir Waddell is still unavaiable after his fall down an embankment.
As with most of our games, Jed started out well against a stuffy PL side but it took sometime for the work to pay off with a well worked try from our backs. Jed started to take a little control of the game but ball retention in the breakdown area was still a concern, with some of the forwards struggling to get around. (truth be told mainly the big one with the long hair!)
2nd half was more of a battle than the 1st, with PL putting alot of pressure on our defence. Spectator Ali Campbell commented that our Centre, 'runs wi his legs tied together and couldnt tackle a fish supper!' Eventually it paid off for them, and they were rewarded with a Try from there 'Big Show' 2nd Row. Not long after tho Jed came back in. And a Grant Johnstone catch from kickoff set up the backs for a good run in try. Soon followed by a small jog for one of the front row to secure the win for sure.
Injuries were limited to Callum Liddle who got a wee dunt on the head, and Gregor Taylor who unfortunately maybe out for the season with an injured wrist.
Try Scorers were Chris Gillan (twice), Ryan Miller and Try of the match from Chris Page, who ran in from the halfway and whale dived over the line. This has led to Riverside being classed as unsafe to play until the dent is filled in.
Player Of The Day was awarded by Roy Laidlaw to Nua Fono-Hunt, our newest signing, who played an excellent game.
Dick Of The Day is awarded to every player who mouthed off at the ref, altho Greg Nagle was singled out for getting us marched back 30m! Suffice to say, any other ref would have had a great day with his yellow card for both teams!
LVP is awarded to Jack 'My hand is still sare' Fraser for being a Girl and Martin Chisholm for arriving with a One Direction Hairdo.
Any details missed, please let me know and ill update the match report, altho i had plenty time to watch the game while on pitch, it difficult remembering particulars.
