PHILADELPHIA, PA - September 9, 2012
Week Two of the 2012 collegiate soccer season will be one to forget for JLSFC players as almost all the universities lost during the week.
We review Stars in College - Week 2 by divisions:
NCAA DIVISION I
Unfortunately, none of our players will be involved in NCAA Division I soccer for this season.
NCAA DIVISION II
Junior Lone Star FC players,
Samuel Fahnboto and
Menuh "Musa" Wiah were involved in the Wilmington Wildcats' thrilling 4 - 5 loss at home to Franklin Pierce on Saturday, September 8th.
The Wildcats found themselves trailing 1-3 at the interval. In the second half, the Wildcats begun what they thought was a comeback when they scored two quick goals to tie the score 3-3 with Menuh Wiah giving the assist for the Wildcats' second goal; however, Franklin Pierce were able to score two more goals to go ahead 3-5 before conceding a last-minute goal to the Wildcats to make the final score 4-5.
Before that match, the Wildcats lost in a conference game at Dominican College 2-1 on Thursday, September 8th. In that game, Menuh Wiah had four shots on goal but he couldn't help his team avoid a defeat.
The Wildcats (1-3-0 Overall, 0-1-0 CACC) will be looking to get back to winning ways as they travel to Goldey-Beacom College on Wednesday, September 12th at 4:00 pm before hosting Bloomfield College in their homecoming game on Saturday, September 15th at 2:30pm. Both games are conference games.
NCAA DIVISION III
After scoring his first collegiate goal in Week 1,
Avis McGill couldn't find his magic touch as the Penn State Berks Nittany Lions lost both conference games away to Wells College (L 0-2) and Keuka College (L 0-3) on Saturday, September 8th and Sunday, September 9th, respectively.
McGill will hope to help the Berks Nittany Lions (0-3-0 Overall, 0-2-0 NEAC) jumpstart their season as they host Lancaster Bible College in another conference game on Wednesday, September 12th at 4:00pm.
Guy Sikpa wasn't involved in Penn State Abington's two away wins in conference play. Unlike the Berks Nittany Lions, the Abington Nittany Lions are having a good run so far this season. The Abington Nittany Lions are presently 3-0-0 Overall and 2-0-0 in NEAC after winning 1-2 away to Keuka College on Saturday, September 8th followed by another 1-2 win away to Wells College on Sunday, September 9th.
Sikpa and the Abington Nittany Lions will have a week-long rest as they don't have any scheduled game for Week Three.
Sallen Woewiyu of Eastern University is still out injured so he wasn't involved in the Eagles' championship run in the Eastern/Cabrini Soccer Classic during the week.
The Eagles opened their season with an entertaining 3-3 draw with Alvernia College on Monday, September 3rd before hosting the Eastern/Cabrini Soccer Classic where they beat both NYU Poly and Wesley college 2-0 on Friday, september 7th and Saturday, September 8th to win their first championship of the season. With those results, the Eagles are now 2-0-1 Overall, 0-0-0 in MAC.
Woewiyu, who was injured at the beginning of the season, will be hoping that the doctors clear him in time for the Eagles' next two games in Week Three as they travel to Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday, September 12th at 7:00pm before hosting Cabrini College on Saturday, September 15th at 2:30pm.
Tahirou Kanneh missed the Neumann University's Knights 1-3 home opener to Stevenson University on Wednesday, September 8th and even though he was involved in the Knights' next game at Gettysburg College on Saturday, September 8th, he couldn't help the Knights avoid their second successive loss of the season.
In Week Three, the Knights (2-2-0 Overall, 0-0-0 CSAC) will host Wesley College on Wednesday, September 12th at 7:00pm before traveling to Widener University on Saturday, September 15th at 4:00pm.
NJCAA Division I
After starting the season on high, JLSFC Junior Team midfield maestro
Deron Joe is finding it difficult as the Illinios Central College have lost two successive games.
Joe was involved in the Cougars' 2-3 loss away to Lincoln Land CC on Saturday, September 8th. The Cougars also played the College of DuPage today, but the scores are unavailable up to press time.
The Cougars (2-2-1 Overall, 0-0-0 in Conference) are on the road again this week as they travel to Jefferson College on Friday, September 14th at 4:00pm
NJCAA Division III
Mohammed Mayah and
Joe Sandi were involved in Manor College's two wins during the week. On Thursday, September 6th, the Blue Jays had to go for extra time to win 2-3 away to Camden College. They were back on the road again on Saturday, September 8th to Gloucester College where they won 0-3.
Mayah and Sandi will be hoping to be included on the matchday roster again in Week Three as the Blue Jays (2-0-0 Overall, 0-0-0 ECAC) play three conference games. The Blue Jays will host Harrisburg Area CC on Monday, September 10th at 3:30pm and then travel to Lehigh Carbon CC on Thursday, Setember 13th at 3:30pm, before they host Bucks County CC on Saturday, September 15th at 1:00pm.
Congratulations to everyone who were involved this week and we wish all our players the best in Week 3 games for their respective colleges.
