PERKASIE, PA - June 30, 2012
Gary Bruce put the Torch in front in the 15th minute of the first half, before Isaac Jardiah scored twice in the space of five minutes in the second half to give the 10-man Stars all three points in the match.
The Stars started the match knowing that a loss would have placed them at the bottom of the seven-team league table. They had already lost their previous three games: 0-1 to FC Sonic, 2-3 to Pocono Snow, and 0-6 to Morris County Colonials.
Playing with only ten men, it seems to be "mission impossible" for the Stars due to the fact that they were playing away to Buxmont Torch who had had decent results in their previous two games: beating Pocono Snow 4-0 at home, and also drawing with them 0-0 away.
Having a one-man advantage, the Torch took the game to the Stars. As early as the 10th minute, they had the ball at the back of the net but Sharp's effort was correctly ruled as offside.
However, it didn't take too long for the Torch to go ahead. A pass from Matt Edgar to Gary Bruce saw the striker free on a goal and he made no mistake in dispatching his shot in the bottom corner of the net to put his side 1-0 up.
With that goal, the Torch begun to pile up more pressure on the Stars but goalkeeper Prince Monyan
stood stoically between the posts to deny the Torch any chance of extending their lead as he made seven saves before the break to keep the Stars into the game.
Whatever was said by Coach Bobby Ali
during the interval seems to have galvanized the Stars as the 10-men came into the second half with renewed vigor.
As early as five minutes into the second half, the Stars equalized through prolific striker Isaac Jardiah who was allowed enough space in the Torch's defense to beat his marker and cheekily poked the ball over the goalkeeper and into the roof of the net.
Five minutes later, the unstoppable Isaac Jardiah scored his and the Stars' second to put them ahead 2-1 through a surprise counter-attack.
The Torch's defense was completely caught off-guard when a counter-attack of their own backfired when they lost possession in the midfield. Winning the ball in midfield, the Stars launched their own counter-attack which saw Isaac Jardiah free on goal and he fiercely shot the ball into the top corner of the near post.
This was Isaac Jardiah's third and fourth goal in just five appearances for the Stars in the league. Jardiah scored twice in the Stars' 4-2 win against AC Crusaders on June 10, 2012.
Shocked by the commitment of the 10-man Stars, the Torch piled as much pressure as they could but the Stars collectively held on to a memorable 2-1 away win.
The Stars will travel to Brooklyn, NY to play Jersey City Eagles on Sunday, July 1, 2012. A win for the Stars and a loss for AC Crusaders in the early match that same day will propel the Stars in third place on the seven-team league table.
