Key Features of Session:

Reviewed video of league match v Battersea played 10th Feb 2013 Regular break points to highlight key strengths and weaknesses in performance - led by HW with teaching points emphasised by RF & ADT Strengths - improved defence and particularly line speed, solid lineout and scrummaging, some good inter play between backs and forwards Weaknesses - lack of dynamism at the breakdown (body positions and general awareness - mind set), over complication and very speculative passing which led to numerous mistakes e.g. 20+ knock on's - emphasis on need to keep things simple and work on phased play (there were no examples of more than 3 phases of play in the whole game!) Summary by HW at the end of video analysis with some objectives set for the 'on field' training session and next game

On Field - with excellent assistance from club senior coach Andre Du Toit

Specific drills to improve breakdown skills - body position, dynamism of 'clear out', etc Backs/Forwards combined to work on continuity and focus on rolling through multiple phase play Revisited key teaching points and agreed some simple objectives for the next league game e.g. reduce error count by 50% and target multiple phase play

Summary

This was a very innovative session and although we will not be circulating the video to players who missed the session we will repeat this format at the next opportunity. Watching the video was also good fun and all the players that attended gave very positive feedback at the end - it brought an increased focus to the 'on field' session.
