For the first time since 15th December the Twos got the better of the weather and found an opposition able to raise a side. Shorn of their captain and a handful of other regulars there was an unfamiliar look to the XV which took to the pitch but pleasingly the outcome remained the same.

Kings started with purpose and soon found themselves pressing the Camberley line only to be thwarted by a knock-on. Undeterred they kept the pressure on and before long Ryan found a way in at the corner with Jack adding the well struck extras; 0-7. Not to be outdone Camberley jostled themselves into position and were awarded a kickable penalty but instead opted for the line out. Their gamble paid off as they barged over for an unconverted score; 5-7. With Will doing well to disrupt the home side’s line-out and the visitors’ pack shading the scrums the pressure eventually told as from a set piece Kyle created the space for Josh to cross under the posts from where Jack did the rest; 5-14. The half ended with Ronan being consigned to the naughty-step for 10mins, the unlucky recipient of a yellow card with Kings on a “team warning”, and from the resulting penalty straight in front Camberley added three to their score; 8-14.

With Camberley having furnished themselves with a squad of 24 the second half looked likely to be a challenge with plenty of fresh legs to test the visitors. As it transpired it was Kings who made the running as Chris, Josh then Chris again punished their hosts for leaving them space in midfield and Jack converting all three; 8-35. Camberley stuck to their task but were unable to find a way through some determined Kings tackling to leave the final tally unchanged.

This 65 mile round trip was Kings longest away day of the season and to come away with a win, having scored five tries on the road for the second time in succession, was pleasing. There were several who excelled on the day not least from Chris who grabbed a brace and Caleb making not just his club debut but playing in his first senior game. It was great to have them both and Jake in the side and we hope to see more of you all soon.

Camberley’s young side played the game in good spirit and were generous hosts afterwards - we wish them well for the remainder of their campaign. For Kings the priority must be to maintain the pressure on the sides above us by keeping up the continuity, personnel and results, until the end of the season…whenever that may be!
