A walloping in the rain
Eventually a match report on the 2XV's convincing win.
A late match report is better than no match report but only just.
The 2XV, having pilfered every waterproof they could find from the clubhouse, didn’t warm up till about 2.40. Nevertheless the shortened warm up seemed to do no harm as they were soon to get going against a game but eventually overpowered London Media team.
The 2XV were thankful to the late addition to the side of King’s Vet’s Skipper, Matt Ferraby who stepped up to tight head in the absence of any other firm offers. This enabled the team to contest the scrummage and with four strong ball carriers in the pack this gave King’s a clear advantage.
As this report is late the memory of the tries has waned but in brief synopsis they were:
barrelled over for his first, Skipper Mikey Hill added the extras. Jake Upward
was next, Mikey missed. Then Mikey scored himself making sure it was close to the posts so the conversion was successful. Rob Parker
got his second and then Will Carter
slid into the corner for the fifth try of the half. Both conversions were missed. 29 – 0 at half time.
The second half was same as the first but just more tries as Media’s determination suffered. Aayush Patel
joined the fray replacing Mr Ferraby having seen the ease with which Matt coped. All the subs had joined the fray by then with Rob Fairbrother
replacing the unfortunate Jac Chetland
who withdrew after breaking his collar bone. Parker scored again, Carter took over the kicking and wasn’t allowed to again. Then Matt Young joined in with Mikey’s kick good. Parker, Hill combo again. Another for both Carter and Upward, only the second converted. Matt Young again from distance and under the posts to make the kick easy.
Then maybe the pick of the bunch with Carter attempting the impossible with a low, wind effected, swooping cross kick which Tim Orton
dived to collect in the air and finish over the line. Sadly he didn’t manage to dive under the posts so the kick was missed.
The last two came from Matt Young and then Greig Blackie
joined in to make only Sam Young
, the fourth of our ball carrying musketeers, the only one to miss out on scoring. Both kicks were good.
So, Rob Parker
scored 4, Matt Young got three, 2 for Will Carter
and Jake Upward
and singles for Hill, Blackie and Orton. Mikey got 8 conversions but will be glad when Wee is back.
A good win. Media fought to the end to try and score but King’s were determined to keep them out.
MOM obviously to Parker, but the two Youngs and Blackie ran him close. Well done to all.
