Child Protection
My name is Kate Metcalfe, I am the Club Safeguarding Officer for Keighley RUFC. The RFU recognises that the welfare of young people in rugby union is a major priority, so my role is to ensure every child can enjoy rugby in a safe & supportive enviornment. Primarily I will:
* act as the first point of contact for concerns about the welfare of young people
* ensure the club has a Child Safeguarding Policy in place to include all core elements of the RFU Policies & Procedures for the Welfare of Young People in rugby union
* ensure that all club officers & committee members are aware of their responsibilities and that the club respond to any indication of poor practice or abuse
* implement a policy of Best Practice for all adults working with young people
* ensure that all relevant members who have regular supervisory contact with children or a management responsibility for those working with young people undertake an Enhanced CRB disclosure
* identify a disciplinary panel which, where necessary, will manage cases of poor practice as identified by the RFU Child Safeguarding Officer
I would ask that all parents, players and supporters ensure they are aware of the Codes of Conduct which are available via this website. The RFU has strict guidelines regarding the abuse to referees, coaches and players. There are severe penalties for clubs in the form of fines, whole club bans and deduction of points!
If you encounter any hostility at a game towards the players, coaches or referee, please report it to me so I can do something about it. Rugby is a family game, and it is only by eradicating poor behaviour and practice that we can ensure a good environment for our junior players.
