Kelvedon finished the season on 47 points in Division One of the Essex and Suffolk Border League after 2 fantastic away wins.

The team gave Luke (Thurston) the chances, but he still had to finish them and he did like a king.

On Saturday 1st April Kelvedon travelled to Tiptree Jobserve, who boast Colchester Utd's training facilities as their home. Embracing the conditions, Kelvedon blew their counterparts away with some clever play and clinical finishing as a hattrick from Martin Young, a well deserved goal for the superb Ben Turner who was unplayable at times, and potentially goal of the season from Captain Pete Gilbert secured a 5-2 away win, with the only negative being the 2 goals conceded.

Young opened the scoring after being released one on one and there was only one outcome as he finished with ease and this was closely followed by a bullet header from Pete Gilbert. After some tidy play out wide with Turner, Johnson and Pitkin, Johnson swung the ball in with his left foot right onto the head of the onrushing skipper Gilbert to smash the ball past the keeper to make it 2-0. This was the score until early in the second half where Tiptree brought one back but the 2 goal cushion was quickly restored when a goal kick from Dawson evaded the Tiptree defence and Young pounced to perfectly lift the ball over the keeper and into the net. Young then completed his hattrick after finding himself through again and again it was a formality as he made no mistake to score yet another hattrick. Tiptree scored again much to the dismay of the Kelvedon back line to make it an uneasy 4-2. Turner, who was the outstanding man of the match, was absolutely untouchable in his advanced role alongside Young and after Fisher's whipped effort hit the post he was on hand to slam home a richly deserved goal to again give Kelvedon that cushion and make it 5.

This week Kelvedon were on their travels yet again as they visited Alresford Colne Rangers Reserves. Finding themselves 3-1 down at half time and desperately needing to win to boost their promotion chances, the boys again showed their character in the second half and brought it back to 3-3, only to go 4-3 down with minutes to go. 2 from Turner, including a last minute header to win the game and a superb hattrick from Luke Thurston, gave the Blades the win they needed to raise them up into 3rd and put pressure on Little Oakley to win all of their remaining 3 games to finish 4th.

Finishing the season with 14 wins from 24 games and with 8 wins from 10 in 2017, the boys have gone from strength to strength as they hope to gain promotion to the Border League Premier Division.
