Kempston under 11’s saw away action against Aylesbury this weekend and recorded their first win as a midi rugby side.

Kempston have been dogged by misfortune this season having had all of its pre Christmas fixtures cancelled mainly due to unsafe pitch condition. This factor plus a large defeat away at Hitchin the week before left the team hungry for points. So hungry they devoured the Aylesbury side crossing the white paint a total of eight times.

Loosing the toss Captain George Chapman kicked off and a series of forced errors made by Aylesbury led to an early Lewis Kelly try. Aylesbury responded quickly with a try of their own, but soon had their heads put down by Kelly as he crossed the line twice more during the half (unfortunately dropping the ball on one occasion!). An outstanding punch through the centre field defence was made by George Livingston which saw him touch down after a 20 metre dash just before the half time whistle.

After the break Kempston came out all guns blazing. Lauren Nichols caught the kick off and charged into the defence offloading beautifully in the tackle to supporting Fullback Max Rowlands. This initial play set the scene for the rest of the half as with morale sky high The Hammers began to pass the ball around the pitch with precision. Some excellent breaks were made by the entire backline as they linked up with each other and outplayed the now demoralised opposition.

Further well worked trys came from winger Shaye Miller and scrum half Luke Warner but the Match result was sealed by a second half hatrick of trys from pack leader second row Lewis Kelly. Despite every effort by the laws of gravity Kelly managed to keep the ball in his hands as he touched down 3 times.
