Super Tens Caesar the Day in Devon

I came, I saw, I conquered’ class.

Super Tens Caesar the Day in Devon .

Keynsham Under Tens’ imperious performances during an outstandingly successful tour of Devon must surely rank with Caesar’s conquest of Gaul in terms of ‘I came, I saw, I conquered’ class.

Tough matches against Barnstaple, South Molton and Bideford provided a dozen and more defining moments which will be remembered by the players, coaches and parents involved for many years to come. There’s too many to list and it would be unfair to mention names as this was a genuine team effort.

Above all, we saw the total, nine-man effort we have been seeking all season.

And just as importantly, we saw a couple of our latest recruits make a mockery of their newcomer status and put in performances which astonished and delighted their colleagues and coaches in equal measure.

First up was Barnstaple , unbeaten in two years with 18 straight victories to their credit and widely believed to be Best in the West – not least by their coach who wasted no time telling Steve all about it. But within two minutes he was frantically re-counting his chickens as Keynsham’s nine-man Ninja squad cut through, past, over and under his shell-shocked side.

From the first whistle to the last blast Keynsham Uber Tens unleashed hell.

Eye-watering tackles, ravaging rucking combined with precision passing to and fro along the backline saw seven tries run in with Barnstaple barely visiting our half of the pitch.

Crucially, this wasn’t the six or seven man effort which we have seen – and sometimes had to make do with - this season. ALL NINE Keynsham players were up for it, every single one of them ran, tackled, passed and rucked as if their lift home depended on it.

Next up were South Molton , who took the field against a new look Keynsham team and overcame an early reverse to end a tough half 3-1 up. Steve and Mark resisted wholesale changes and simply adjusted a couple of positions.

Keynsham then fought their way back to even-stevens and dominant forward pressure finally squeezed two more tries to end a gutsy and exciting match 5-3.

Sunday saw a very tired set of party animals turn up ten miles down the road at Bideford. The sun came out as Steve and Mark fielded two mixed sides made up of equal measure grizzled veterans and raw recruits.

But if anybody imagined the tourists were going to step off the gas they were seriously mistaken. Truly massive individual efforts by our usual suspects seemed to inspire the less confident players to go balls-out too. Vidas Las Vegas turned in an immaculate impersonation of Richie Gray on the rampage, and even newer newcomer Aaron made a couple of surging runs down the wing. Both were deeply unlucky not to cross the line but we won’t be waiting long to add their names to the scoresheet.
The final weekend tally makes stark reading: Keynsham Under 10s 30 tries, opposition 4.
Fantastic physical effort in what was a genuine celebration of good sportsmanship on and off the pitch, and an enormous achievement for all the boys.
