Jet Lagged 7s Lose out a Lucts
Sleepy start by the 7s cost dearly away at Lucts
The Under 7s travelled far and wide this week to Lucts, traversing through rolling hillsides and bendy roads a few of the team turned up looking quite green around the gills. With a few players missing for Mother’s Day (bless em) we just scraped together two sides.
The morning started out cold and damp with a few of the parents (the mums) complaining that it was cold they wanted to go home, it was their day blah blah blah you get the general jist of it, but having found warmth and sustenance in the Lucts bar they were happy again.
Game 1 Kidderminster 7- Lucts 6
Tries: Henry, Callum, Matt G (4), Jake I
Game 2 Carolians 1 – Lucts 8
Try: Charlie Whitehouse
Game 3 Kidderminster 8- Lucts 4
Tries: Henry, Harry Male (2), Callum (3), Jake I, Matt G
Game 4 Carolians 1 – Lucts 6
Try: Charlie
Game 5 Kidderminster 9 – Lucts 7
Tries: Henry, Callum (2), Jake I (4), Matt G (2)
Game 6 Carolians 4 – Lucts 5
Tries Jake V, James (2), Charlie
The Carolians score lines are quite flattering to Lucts, but the team did shake off the Jet Lag and produce some fine performances in the last game, with them not conceding a single try in the second half.
Another fantastic attacking performance in all 6 matches with every player contributing through tries, tags and support play.
Kidderminster Round Up of Day:
Matt G & Callum scored a few tries each from typical solo runs, both now running much straighter and more direct making their changes of direction much more effective. Both also scored from excellent support play and being in the right place to take a short pass when team-mates were tagged just short of the line.
Harry Male scored from some great running to outflank the Lucts defence on a couple of occasions and did very well to stay in play as he dashed down the line to score in the corner on a couple of occasions.
Henry – best try was scored when given the re-start right on our own try-line – ran direct & hard to get out of our half then cut through the last line of defence and managed to win a race to the line.
Jake – scored with a couple of jinking runs from distance and also after receiving the ball near to the try-line when our attack had stalled
Will / Harry C – some good runs which made good ground and passes which lead to tries for team-mates
Highlight was the kids coming up with their own plan for a dummy pass & run at the re-start – Henry dummied a pass to Matt G on a decoy run, with the pass then being made in the opposite direction to Callum. This move gave Callum some extra space and he was able to sprint round the stranded Lucts winger and run down the line to score in the corner.
Carolians Round up of the day:
Despite starting slowly the team managed to produce some good flowing rugby, the ever improving Will from nowhere pulled a ‘show n go’ out of the bag to completely ouT Fox the Lucts defender,
Charlie scored 2 break away tries easily out pacing the Lucts defence and also making valuable runs back to catch up to Lucts players who had a 3 or 4 yard advantage on him.
Jake made some good runs forward rewarded with a try that had 3 Lucts players hanging of him trying to get his tag
Ethan made some fine tags again, in fact almost tagging anything in a Lucts shirt; I don’t think he can wait for contact as he pulled off some amazing handoffs, but alas this isn’t allowed in Tag Rugby so got pinged by the ref a few times
Archie made some darting runs to out flank the Lucts defence and worked hard getting back to shepherd Lucts players towards the touchline
Reece made some more little runs he is getting accustomed to, piercing the Lucts defence with his deceptive turn of pace and size, he also managed to keep his hands out of his pockets for a full 7 min half – well done we were all stunned even your Mum and Dad!!
Training this week, places for the Worcester Tournament still up for grabs.
We can only take one team, its Worcester’s rules and they will stick to them which why they have two teams entered! Players selected will be chosen on consistent form not just the past few weeks and is based upon all of the coach’s comments.
