Kidlington took all 3 points in this tremendous game of football last night at The Simplyhealth City Ground.....read on

Winchester City FC 0 Kidlington FC 1

For the majority of the game it was end to end stuff and with Winchester having some top players in their ranks Kidlington did extreamly well not to concede on the night with keeper Sam Warrell proving the difference between the two sides.

Kidlington all in orange certainly started well and went on the offensive from the start. The Citizens looked a bit shocked early on as Kidlington's passing game looked to keeping them on the back foot.

Gradually the hosts were beginning to grow into the match and with the running of Ollie Bailey and Ben White up top were beginning to cause the greens back line some problems.

In the opening 15 minutes The Green's keeper Sam Warrell was called into action 3 times to make saves from Bailey, White and an Adam Tomasso pile driver.

Kidlington for their part were breaking spasmodically and when Declan Benjamin and Elliott Osbourne-Ricketts combined they set up Lewis Coyle, Coyle acrobatically got his shot away but home keeper Ryan Pryce did well to stop it.

The game was still flowing well but it was Kidlington's Coyle that made the breakthrough in the 24th minute (see the photo). Another surging run up the center of the park by Benjamin freed Anaclet Odhiambo, his shot was saved by Bailey but Coyle was alert and fired home the rebound for 1 - 0, 24 minutes gone.

Winchester came close to an equiliser in the 36th minute when a good team move ended with a fierce shot from Jamie Barrow, but the outstretched leg of skipper Tom Franklin flicked the ball over the bar.

Late in the half Declan Benjamin was unlucky, he rose high to head a cross from Coyle but powered it just over the bar.

At half time Kidlington had the lead but it was a slender one.

The second half started much the same as the first with Kidlington still looking to take the game to their hosts, but again after about 5 minutes of the half The Citizens were beginning to push Kidlington back again with their strong running game. In their ranks at right wing-back Danny Williams was having a tremendous game and Kidlington defender Tommy Castle was doing well to contain him.

On 52 minutes it appeared that Winchester had equilised as a corner swept into the 6 yard box was headed at goal, however the outstretched foot of Ben Willoughby saved the situation with the ball ricocheting off the cross bar and then hacked to safety.

Winchester were really turning the screw as the searched for parity and on the hour mark only a brilliant saving block from Eddie Odhiambo, off the line, prevented them gaining it.

After this passage of play Kidlington again started to impose themselves on the game. Firstly Anaclet Odhambo flicked the ball on for substitute Callum Harvey to race onto. Harvey reached the ball but then from the angle couldn't properly test keeper Pryce.

On 79 minutes Coyle was extreamly unlucky to see a free kick from about 25 yards thump into the side netting with Pryce flat footed in the center of his goal, he'll probably say he had it covered!

On 88 minutes Harvey who'd certainly made an impact since coming on found himself unmarked at the back post, Coyle found him with a deep cross but the youngster couldn't direct his effort on target.

We played a nervy 4 or 5 minutes of added time but came through it unscathed to take the 3 points home up the A34 with us.

All in all this was a tremendous win against a very good Winchester team. If all the games during the season were like this we'd all be in for some terrific entertainer, lets hope that's the case.
