We went down 1 - 0 to late goal at Wimbourn on Saturday.....read on

Wimborne Town 1 Kidlington 0

This match had all the making of a thriller with both sides looking to use their games in hand to propel them up the table, but in the end it was a cautious encounter with mainly defences coming out on top.

Kidlington's line up had an unfamiliar look about it with many players unavailable, James Organ slotted in as a make shift center back, coupled with a completely new looking forward line of Mark Janes and youngsters Harry Whitehead and Roger James

The main action of the 1st half came in the first few minutes, firstly Kiddy keeper Sam Warrell needed to be alert to save a powerful shot from Tobi Holmes and then within a minute there was controversy at the other end. Lewis Coyle looked clean through on goal but was crudely taken out from behind, it looked a stone wall penalty but the officials didn't see it that way. Coyle was clearly injured by the tackle and stayed down while the game plated on and only after the ball went out of play some 30 seconds later was he able to receive treatment.

These was plenty off huff and puff on offer from both sides for the remainder of the half but nothing that either keeper had to be to unduly worried about was forthcoming from either set of strikers.

The second half started with Kidlington, who were gaining in confidence, kicking down the slope. However once again chances, especially for the visitors, were at a premium as defenses still seemed to hold all the aces.

As we entered the latter stages of the match the game was getting stretched with both teams looking to nick a goal. Kidlington were on the attack deep in the home sides half when a misplaced pass was picked off, a long ball forward saw Kidlington's defence breached for only about the second time in the game. However this second time was terminal for Kidlington, Tobi Holmes raced away from James Organ and after rounding keeper Warrell side footed his shot home into an unguarded net.

There were rapturous scenes on the terraces and on the pitch as Wimborne now had the lead in the 87th minute.

Kidlington were crestfallen and their heads dropped, only the post a couple of minutes later prevented Wimborne striker Jack Lovell making it 2 - 0 as boyed by their goal they stormed forward eager for more.

We played through about 4 minutes of injury time before the referee blew up for full time, but there was no way back for Kidlington on the day.

My view on proceeding was that we at least deserved a draw, but quite often in football you don't get what you deserve and this was one of those days. Perhaps we became over adventurous in those closing minutes, we'll never know, but I did feel that we were on top just when we conceded.

The other point of note was the early penalty shout. I thought it was a bad tackle on Coylie and to be fair to the Wimborne supporters around me so did they, so I feel we didn't get the rub of the green in that instance when an early goal may well have set us up for another away win?
