Kidlington stumbled to defeat yet again in this Buildbase FA Trophy match at Managotsfield Town yesterday afternoon....read on

Mangotsfield Town 3 Kidlington 0

The match in the Bristol suburb of Mangotsfeid was played in strong wind, blowing down the pitch and at the backs of The Greens in the 1st half. The early exchanges, as you'd expect were mainly in the home sides half but that bit of quality that is always needed was missing to open the visitors defence from within the Kidlington ranks.

On several occasions The Greens had possession in good positions but couldn't find a final ball or even a decent shot to go with it.

As the half went on the better and more creative attacking play was certainly achieved by the Mangos and because of this in the 37th minute Kidlington fell behind. A cross in from the left flank found Kyle Tooze unmarked beyond the far post, the central striker bulleted his header into the Kidlington net for 1 - 0.

This indeed was the only goal before the break and we all went in for a welcome cuppa.

Kidlington now playing against the wind had it all to do and set about trying to reverse the situation with some gusto at the start of the half. At at the break a strangely out of sorts Liam Talboys was replaced by Jack Quainton on the right of midfield.

Pushing more players into forward positions was the best tactic when chasing a game and but for some wayward finishing from striker Jamie Calvin Kidlington could have found themselves level in the 58th minute.

However, in the 64th minute with Kidlington leaving holes at the back The Mangos scored a second. This time some defensive indecision let Adam Kelly square the ball for Jordan Williams and he rasped his shot past Sam Warrell for 2 - 0.

A struggling Ben Willoughby was replaced by Joey Cowlishaw soon after this goal and the youngsters enthusiasm and running then became a feature of the game.

Cowlishaw and Quainton combined well to set up Calvin in the 72nd minute but the striker hit his shot straight at youth team keeper Lochian Robertson. Robertson had been called up as a late replacement for usual Manago's keeper Andy Hanna who reported in sick a couple of hours earlier.

Mangotsfield were able to play the game at their own pace now and found a 3rd and killer goal in the 80th minute, This time the ball was finally crashed into the Kidlington net by substitute and veteran ex-pro Clayton Fortune.

Shortly after this goal Calvin had another great chance to pull one back, but the Kidlington striker could only hit the stand behind the goal rather than test Robertson from about 10 yards out!

That was it as good as it got for the visitors, so that's the 3rd cup exited at the 1st attempt this season.
