Kidlington put Bicester to the sword in the 3rd round of the Oxfordshire Senior Cup......read on

Kidlington 7 Bicester Town 2

Harry Whitehead and Lewis Coyle both scored a brace as The Greens overcame some stubborn resistance from Hellenic League side Bicester Town at a wind sweep Yarnton Road tonight.

In an effort to rotate his squad Manager Julian McCalmon made five changes from the team that beat Paulton on Saturday as Whitehead, Quainton, Organ, Benjamin and Roger James all started. Needless to say you will seldom see a stronger bench at Kidlington.

Playing with the elements Bicester probably shaded the first half and even led at one stage, an early tap in from Tom Castle was soon cancelled out when Roger James gave away a penalty and ex Kiddy player Elliott Powell made no mistake from the spot.

Things went from bad to worse as the visitors attacked at pace, and a poor clearance from Tommy Franklin found the under pressure James Organ who lost possession, the resultant shot at goal looked goal bound but Jack Quaintons attempted clearance sliced into his own net on 33 minutes. Things could have been worse four minutes later as Robert Johnson got round the back only to see his short run agonisingly just wide of the far post. Stung by this Kidlington finished the half the stronger as Roger James mazy run was rewarded with a near post finish to tie the scores 2-2 at the break.

With the wind at their backs The Greens dominated the second half with 3 goals in an 11 minute spell. A bizarre situation saw Durran Martin pulled down in the area with the Refereeing Assistant rightly awarding a penalty and taking up a position for the resultant free penalty kick to be taken, bizarrely to be over ruled by the referee who gave it just outside the box! Not to be outdone the free kick rebounded to James who’s shot was parried by keeper Joe White only for Harry Whitehead to smash home the loose ball. Coyle promptly made it 4-2 and Whitehead was on hand a couple of minutes later to finish off a great break, with a shoot across the keeper into the bottom corner. Lewis Gabbidon on for Tom Castle made it six on 78 minutes and Coyle completed the scoring in the final minute.

Team - Sam Warrell, Jack Quainton, Tom Castle (61 Eddie Odhiambo), Tom Franklin, James Organ, Declan Benjamin, Duran Martin (61 Lewis Gabbidon), Lewis Coyle, Roger Jame, Harry Whitehead, Lance Williams (54 Darius Browne).
Subs not used - Elliott Osbourne-Ricketts & Anaclet Odhiambo.
