Kidlington’s Hellenic Division One side are the early league leaders after a very creditable 1-1 draw at Almondsbury earned despite playing the last half hour with ten men.
Jack Johnson tapped home after twenty minutes following a fantastic run and shot from lively debutante Jamie Wyatt (pictured), the ex Hook Norton and Witney Town winger smashed a fantastic shot against the upright and Jonno was there to tap home. Kidlington continued to be the better side for the rest of the half but failed to capitalise on their greater possession. Then right on the stroke of half time The Greens allowed a long ball to drop inside the penalty area and it appeared that center half Richard Brooks made a well timed tackle as he ushered the ball away from the Almondsbury forward but to the astonishment of the Kidlington players, the referee pointed to the penalty spot and booked Brooks for the tackle. Greg Parr stroked home the penalty and it was half time.
The second half began well for Kidlington and they created a host of chances, but with half hour left on the clock, the hapless Brooks made another tackle taking the ball from high up in the air, the referee deemed it to be dangerous play and issued a second booking to Brooks and The Greens were down to ten men. From here on in the match could have gone either way, the home side hit the post and Nick Lacey made a fantastic point blank save to deny the Almonds. Then in the 85th minute, Matty Didcock who came on as a sub when Brooks got sent off smashed what looked like an unstoppable shot but it hit a defender on the line and rebounded to safety. The traveling Greens had to settle for a point from this visit to Bristol but sit top of the fledgling league table.
