Kidlington’s second team will be looking to bounce back on Saturday afternoon when they entertain local rivals North Leigh United, kick off 3:00pm.
Their last two games have seen contrasting performances from the Kidlington young guns. The first of these was a league defeat at local rivals Woodstock Town where The Green Machine failed to live up to the standards which had seen them win five matches on the bounce before this match, the second can only be described as a “glorious defeat”.
There were many positives that came out of last weeks 2-1 away defeat at Uhlsport Premier Division Fairford Town in the Challenge Cup. The Machine were 1-0 up at half time and at times it was totally impossible to make out who were the Premier Division outfit and if the young Greens side had scored on six occasions it would not have flattered them. On the flip side of the coin it was a harsh lesson which showed they need to be far more ruthless against higher opposition teams in front of goal if they are to realise the potential of this very talented squad. Manager, Nick East said afterwards “It is all well and good dominating possession but it's what you do with the final pass or shot that decides many games. Fairford to their credit were ruthless in front of goal, they created very little but their late winner that was smashed into the top corner from 20 yards was worthy of winning any match”.
On Saturday a strong North leigh United visit Yarnton Road, they are managed by an ex-Kidlington player Sean Sullivan. Sean is very highly respected in local football and he always creates teams that play in an attacking style. He also has a canny knack of winning trophies which was highlighted during his time as manager of Oxfordshire Senior League Outfit OUP.
