Kidlington 0 Evesham United 3
All the hard work that was performed on the pitch during the day certainly paid dividends as the pitch was in a damp but playable condition.
The opening exchanges were pretty even, but as the game progressed you could see that Evesham were slowly but surely imposing themselves on proceedings.
Some extreamly brave goalkeeping by Sam Warrell in the 24th minute, when he dived at the feet of an Evesham striker earned him a cut chin. There was a delay while he was treated but then after a change of jersey he was able to continue.
The opening goal arrived in the 37th minute and what a goal it was. Evesham skipper Adam Mann scored it with a thunderous shot into the corner of the Kidlington goal from 25 yards out.
Any hope for response from within the Kidlington ranks wasn't forthcoming and we went in at half time without Kidlington registering a single shot on target.
Kidlington came out for the second half looking more pumped up and began to take the game to the visitors. In the 49th minute a good passing move culminated in Lewis Coyle passing the ball across for Anaclet Odhiambo some 10 yards out from goal. Unfortunately instead of striking it first time Odhiambo took a touch, in doing so he was quickly crowded out and the chance evaporated.
Kidlington were soon to rue this miss as Evesham doubled their lead after a defensive slip from Ben Brown. His intended back pass was far to short allowing Garyn Preen to nip in, round keeper Warrell and slip the ball home for 2 - 0 on 52 minutes.
Kidlington tried to push on and secure something from this match and Lewis Gabbidon thought he'd done just that in the 67th minute. A smart ball into Gabbidon saw the midfielder finish with some aplomb, but he was adjudged to be in an off side position!
The game was finally killed off as a contest in the 76th minute. Another defensive lapse allowed Ewan Dunbar a free run at goal and the youngster shot home smartly from the edge of the box for 3 - 0.
That was the end of the scoring and Evesham deservedly revenged their defeat to the Greens earlier in the season. Kidlington's attentions now turn to this Thursday and a local derby game with North Leigh at Eynsham Park, kick off 7:45pm.
