On Sunday Kilburn’s U15 team travelled up to Pinner RFC to take part in a 4 way tournament along with Harrow RFC and Fullerians RFC. Each team would play 3 matches to decide an overall winner (read on!)
With our biggest turn out so far, 19 lad’s (after a return trip to collect ZZ) turned up, tuned in but never dropped out of contention. For as the whistle started the first match vs. Pinner it was clear the Cosmos were in town.... Classy play from the off reaped reward and saw Harry H score a try within the first 2 minutes, Nicely converted by Conrad M.
Even passages of play followed but Kilburn again broke the Pinner line and Conrad M scored our 2nd to make it 10 nil at ½ time, having narrowly missed the kick.
Pinner came out very strong in the second ½. As home team they really took the game back to Kilburn with wave after wave of attack. Our boys though, to their great credit soaked up the Pinner pressure and eventually closed out a scoreless 2nd ½ to win 12 : 0. Great Start!
Seconds away, round 2 saw us facing Fullerians RFC. Heat spray here, strapping there. Orange segments and a swig of l’eau du Kilburn meant the boys were again ready for action.
Once again Kilburn were switched right on from the off and from cracking team play saw them on the scoreboard early. Conrad M. Conner H. Harry H. Tommy NB(x2) and ZZ all bagged tries, with Conrad kicking 3 of them and Otto TS kicking the other 2. Fullers Scored twice and never gave up but Cosmos saw the game out 40:12 in the end! Two & 0...
And so to the final match of the day. Unbeaten Harrow up against unbeaten Kilburn in a winner takes all showdown...
Confidence was high in the Cosmos ranks and it transferred to the scoreboard. Kilburn shone in the final with great play and runs from the whole team. Tries came from Conrad. A brace from ZZ and another From Harry H and with 2 Conrad conversions we saw Kilburn 24 : 0 winners at the final whistle.
So 3 wins from 3 made the Journey home a happy if a little battered and bruised one. Top Stuff Lads, Well Done!
The whole team gets Men of the match awards and here’s why in alphabetical order;
AJ. Improving every game & turning into a great tackler!
Blazej. Scared the daylights out of everyone... including me! Great game.
Charlie. Stepped up as Captain and showed great leadership and skill in all 3 matches.
Conner. Back to the old juggernaut we love Solid at scrum time & a try to boot!
Conrad. Another cracking game, Dazzling runs tries and kicks aplenty + improved tackle count!
David. Solid as a rock, Great runs and tackles in all 3 games. 2nd row specialist!
Glen. Super strong as tighthead and really starting to use that strength in open play. + Even the odd smile!
Harry H. Super try scoring runs + real flair in defence saw another top performance. Superb!
Jawad. Again a lad that’s improving with every game. Great throws at the lineout + increased tackle rate!
John. Solid performance from a lad with only 2 Kilburn caps. Anyone who can play multi positions will go far!
Jonners. Talking of multi positions Jonners has become a real handful. One particular tackle he made shook the whole crowd...Quality!
Langers. Anyone who can play Hooker, Flanker and then Fullback has to be a legend!
Otto. Or Omen as he’s now called. Opposition 9’s and 10’s were shaking in their boots. Once he lets his Rugby do the talking he becomes Class!
Rolly. Back from injury Rolly worked hard. Once we/he sort out a permanent position he will shine!
Sajjad. U14 ledge really puts in the hard tackles against boys older than him. Good job at Scrum ½ in all 3 matches.
Scott. Really starting to get it. Improving as a scrummager and getting stuck in as a Flanker. Nice!
Tom. Nice boots!
Zaki. One of the clubs oldest members Zaki in my opinion had his best Cosmos match yesterday. Stuck out on the wing can be tough. But the try saving tackle he made in the final was his best ever!!
ZZ. Missed the first match but played his usual spellbinding game in the next 2. The real deal!
