U18s Match Report v Wigtownshire Sun 29th Jan 2012

Kilmarnock Under 18s entertained Wigtownshire Under 18s on Sunday afternoon. With a few players unavailable because of the Sunday fixture the Killie Squad was tested to the full.
John Dewar opened the scoring after 6 minutes diving over in the corner after good work from the forwards. Killie continued to press forward with good runs by Connor Turnbull and David Dunseath but it took another 8 minutes before they scored again, Liam Neilson powering his way over the line from 3 yards out, Ross Anderson kicked the extra points to give Killie a 12 point lead.
Wigtownshire came back into the match on 25 minutes as they worked their way up the far touchline scoring wide out in the corner, the conversion was missed and the next 10 minutes was played out without any further scores 12 - 5 to Kilmarnock at the break.
The second half began with Kilmarnock again apply the pressure Ross Anderson took a quick tap penalty and floated a lovely pass out to Fraser Hannah on the wing who collected the ball to score in the corner the conversion was missed again. A further 20 minutes passed before the next score and it was the visitors who managed to score after a good jinking run by their stand off the conversion was missed but Wigtownshire were very much back in the game trailing by 17 points to 10. Kilmarnock tried to take the game to Wigtownshire in the forwards but were finding it difficult with the much bigger Shire side soaking up everything that Killie could throw at them. Some good driving play by Greg Reid gained some good yards and with ten minutes to go Kilmarnock drove into the Shire 22 with forwards Liam Neilson & Ross Murray leading the way. Wigtownshire could not hold out and conceded a penalty five yards from their own line, the ever alert Connor Turnbull took and quick tap and jinked past a couple of defenders to score the final points of the match. A good win against a big Wigtownshire side but plenty of work to be done on the training pitch this week. Final score 22 - 10. Player of the Match David Dunseath
