Kilmarnock seal 8 wicket victory.
Kilmarnock winning run continues
Kilmarnock traveled to Stirling on Saturday to take on Motherwell hoping to keep up there good start to the season. Once again the weather was not looking perfect so when captain Paul Flanagan
won the toss he decided to put Motherwell in even though it looked like a good wicket to bat on.
The decision paid dividends almost immediately as Alex Gibson took 2 wickets in his first over to leave Motherwell reeling at 11-2.
A useful partnership of 38 started to bring Motherwell back into the game before the other opening bowler Waleed Iqbal produced a spell of 3 for 12 from 4 overs to leave Motherwell at 84 for 5.
The young openers had done the job for Kilmarnock taking out the top order but it was down to the experience of Jim Hill
to finish the innings off. Bowling a beautiful spell of off spin bowling Hill tore through the lower order to finish with figures of 4 for 9 from his 4.2 overs.
This left Kilmarnock to chase 130 to win and after a quick chat with the umpires they decided to come straight back out due to the threat of rain in the air. The in form Flanagan and opening partner Sandeep Dhaliwal
serenely took Kilmarnock to 50 before the rain arrived forcing the players off the field.
Fortunately for Kilmarnock it was not to be a long stoppage but they did lose Dhaliwal for 16 and Munir Ahmed
for 6 soon after the break. They were wobbling slightly at 66 for 2 but they needn't have panicked as Azhar Abdullah joined Flanagan and played beautifully to see them home with an unbeaten 36. Flanagan once again played a captains knock of 60 not out to help Kilmarnock to an important 8 wicket victory.
