On a particularly hot Saturday Kings Lynn Black Knights lost to North Hertfordshire Crusaders in their penultimate game of the regular season.

Despite playing the league leaders, a much-improved performance from the Knights saw them level until late in the game.

In fact the beginning of the game saw the Knights take an early lead with two tries from Jaryd Bennett and old-hand Reg Dunn. Finally the visiting Crusaders woke from a sluggish start and clawed back two tries, ending the half level at 12-12.

Despite no scores for the majority of the second half, the game was anything but dull. Both teams had opportunities with Crusaders butchering a chance out wide, dropping the ball as they crossed the line. Jack Webber was then denied a 90 metre try for the home side by his opposite number’s fantastic recovery to make a last-ditch tackle.

Finally the hot weather and some Crusaders prolonged pressure took its toll on the Knights, as the visitors scored twice in the last 10 minutes to claim a 24-12 victory. Next week Kings Lynn travel to Milton Keynes with the winners claiming the final playoff spot.
