Kinloss Eagles v Aberdeenshire 2nd XV
Still unbeaten in the league!
Kinloss Rugby Club welcomed the men from Aberdeen (with a few picked up along the way) to Kinloss today for an early season top of the table clash.
Prior to the game, both teams were unbeaten and battling for top spot via point difference. Aberdeen informed us earlier in the week that they would be short of manpower for the game but through a process of 'beg, borrow and steal' they managed to field a full side (with replacements) courtesy of many a club along the Moray coast that didn't have a planned fixture. The team that arrived to play was big (apart from the aptly named Fly Half 'Titch'), strong and experienced. The Eagles definitely had a game on their hands.
The game started heavily in favour of the Eagles for possession and territory and an early score from 'hook wing' Reedy gave just desserts.
The remainder of the first half was tough for both teams and saw lots of good work from both sides. A good try was scored for Aberdeen but tries from Knock and Duncs Martin left the half time score at 19 - 12.
The second half started with vigour for the visitors and they soon equalled the score. This, and some direction from HC Mikey Lawton, pushed the Eagles into a higher gear and 2 well worked tries from Reed (again) and Baldwin meant that the final score sat with Kinloss 10 points to the good.
The people of Kinloss came out in support again today and the Clubhouse was busy with a fun family atmosphere. Thanks to the 'ladies' for sorting the food and to our own 'Brett' for running the bar.
Another game that saw a few more new players for the Eagles and evens debut for Jonny Fisher at Fly Half. The stand out performance (in the editors eyes) was young Duncan Martin at Scrum half with notable performances from Big Dan at lock and Scotty G at full back.
Go Eagles .....
