Knaphill Ladies, the season so far…….
After the euphoria of the Ladies first season promotion in winning the League & the double with the League Cup, the start of the 10/11 season has proved to be a tough challenge to overcome. The squad itself is largely intact from last season although some of the more experienced girls have moved on to pastures new. Some new faces have arrived, one being Kirsty Gibson who scored last Sunday in the 1-4 home defeat by Kent Magpies.
After a shortened pre-season, whose highlight was a 3-0 away win at Farnham Town Ladies, the opening game of the season saw a hard fought 0-0 at home against MSA Ladies. This gave great expectations for the coming matches in The London & SE Regional Women’s League; however this is a big step for a new team like Knaphill and this season was always going to be a steep learning curve and so it has proved to be. An exciting 3-2 win over the very promising Knaphill U16 girls was followed by the second league match which saw a 1-4 defeat at K.I.K.K. Utd from Central London. With the home loss to Kent Magpies last Sunday, The Ladies now find themselves in 8th place in the league of 10 teams, but with an away game at Tower Hamlets Ladies, who are currently bottom of the league without a point, on Sunday; this gives Knaphill the opportunity of their first competitive win of the season.
The County Cup is a competition in which the Ladies performed very well last year by making the quarter-finals and their first round tie is at home to Epsom Eagles Ladies on Sunday 17th October (1.45pm KO), make a date in your diaries for that one. The Ladies play their league fixtures on a Sunday at Brookwood Country Park (Home of Knaphill FC) with 1.45pm KO’s. They are always looking for all the support that they can get, so come along and show the girls just that. They are also on the look-out for talented players to bolster the squad.
