Ladies Half Term Report

Ladies Half Term Report image

With the season halfway through, I thought it might be the right time to look back on how Knaphill Ladies have fared in their first season.

Having a ladies team is a first for Knaphill FC. Our girls team have been very successful in the past few years and when the opportunity arose to launch a fully fleged Ladies team, husband and wife team Roy & Pam Lawrence took charge.

Their first game was away at Godalming Town and a fine 9-0 scoreline was the result. Vicky Petrova & Kerrie Allen showing their prowess in front of goal, with 4 & 2 goals respectively. The next game was another away trip, this time to Molesey where a closer game saw a 6-2 win for Knaphill where Kerrie notched her first hatrick.

The next game was the first at Redding Way and saw a thumping 14-0 win over Mytchett Athletic with Kerrie helping herself to 8 and a hattrick from Jade Barclay. Unfortunately this and a walk-over win over Mychett have been struck from the table as Mychett have resigned.

The next home game was against Claygate Royals and brought anothert 14-0 win. Kerrie only managing 7 this time with Vicky grabbing a hattrick. The County Cup beckoned next with a local tie at Meadow Sports which saw a 16-1 demolision with Kerrie & Vicky getting 4 each and further hatricks from Leanne Sands & Jess Boyd.

Guildford Saints presented us with our first walk-over and a home match against the same opposition was called off with a waterlogged pitch. This lead to a month of postponed or walk-ovewr games before the 2nd round of the County Cup against strong opposition in the name of Crystal Palace Ladies Reserves.

Despite having to field a weakened side and holding Palace to 1-1 until the last 10 minutes, the girls eventually lost 3-1; only for the Surrey FA to inform them that Crystal Place had played whilst under suspension and a quarter-final home tie with local rivals Westfield Ladies now beckoned. The prize for winning this game would be a home match against Ladies Premier League side Chelsea in the semis!

Back to league action or more like non-action, as an away trip to Crawley Wasps and a home game against Molesy were both called off with waterlogged pitches. The last action of the year was supposed to be an away game at Claygate Royals, but again this was awarded as a Walk-over to Knaphill.

Having led the table all season, it is frustrating to see Knaphill currently in 2nd having lost 6 points because of Mytchetts withdrawal. However we are still the only 100% record in the league and if the girls continue undefeated for the rest of the League season, they could wrap up the title before the end of February. The League Cup sees a home tie against Bedfont Sports in January with a potential home tie against Godalming Town in the semis.

Knaphill FC are incredably proud of the way the girls have conducted themselves both on and off the pitch in their inaugural season and with the glint of silverware in future, this season will provide an extremely high marker for next season. This however is a team performance and as well as the gola scorers mentioned the rest of the team having provided match winning performances all over the pitch.

The girls play on Sundays at Redding Way, KO 2.00pm (1.30pm for Cup games), so come down and watch Knaphill's most succesful adult team so far this year. See the website for future fixtures.

COME ON YOU LADY KNAPPERS!!!
