Knappers Shocker...

Our unbeaten run was ended in emphatic style as SCR put on a late show to grab three goals in the final eight minutes to return home with all three points.
It was not the greatest preparation for our big FA Vase game next Saturday as a fairly even affair drifted away from us in the closing stages.

A frantic opening saw both sides strike the crossbar within seven minutes. Danny Fernandez for our visitors was at full stretch in the fifth minute and saw his volley come back off the crossbar from five yards and two minutes later Jimmy Norman powered a twenty yarder against the bar.

On fourteen minutes Danny Taylor was put through but the usually deadly striker put his effort wide. We were made to suffer in the twenty first minute as SCR opened the scoring. We lost possession cheaply in our penalty box and the ball fell invitingly for Gjoni and his crisp half volley whistled past Richard Shelley.

The lead could have been doubled on thirty three minutes when Matt Robinson went through from a flick on and his lob beat Shelley but once again came back off the crossbar.
We had a strong end to the first half as firstly Charlie put Danny through again but again the effort was off target and then Jimmy Norman’s snap shot was expertly saved by Craig Bradshaw.

We got on the front foot as the second half progressed forcing a number of corners and both full backs bombed forward. SCR defended resolutely and looked in control but on fifty five minutes a long ball forward was missed by everyone and fell invitingly to Charlie Postance and he made no mistake from twelve yards claiming his seventh goal in four games. We were well on top now with Shelley having a quiet time. Jimmy Norman had two freek kicks, one straight at Bradshaw and the other inches over.
On sixty two minutes SCR found themselves 2-1 up as a break down the left saw Campbell go clear and his shot found the bottom corner. Once again we had to find an equaliser and within minutes Arafat(Yassa) Kabuye obliged as he nipped ahead of his marker and volleyed home from eight yards.

Shooting towards our favoured end surely a third would follow and three points to keep us in fourth spot. However, despite concerted pressure Bradshaw and co held firm and defended very well frustrating us. They then produced the killer third goal on eighty two minutes when a deep cross from the left fell to the unmarked Auletta and he controlled well before planting his shot into the far corner. The game was put to bed on eighty seven minutes when Matt Robinson powered in a header from close range and in injury time Campbell well and truly rubbed it in as he cut inside on the dribble and found the top corner past Shelley’s despairing dive.

It goes without saying this was not the result we anticipated but congratulations to our visitors who defended well, kept their discipline and punished us severely when chances came their way.

It was also good to see another player in Ash Hitchinson make his debut having progressed from the Youth Team to the Reserves and now the first team and Youth Team Captain Ethan Losty also made another appearance.
