Draw for the vets
Much improved performance. Lilley beat us twice last year, and sit second in the league.
Much improved performance. Lilley beat us twice last year, and sit second in the league. Downhill, with the wind on a heavy pitch we started strongly, dominating possession in the first 30 mins to create a couple of clear cut chances that should have been taken. But Lilley took the lead in the first half hitting us on the break. Second half was a bit more even, as we struggled into the wind. Commitment and energy was great and we fought our way back into the match when Lewis cut a nice pass through to Frazer who finished well. Lilley were clearly rattled, knowing finding a way past Andy and James was going to be difficult. A bit of red mist descended in the Lilley ranks when Dave M took exception to being chopped down at the knee. Then James was hacked down and held down for an attempted punch. Not sure why they always pick on the nimble, gentle centre half? With his co-manager in trouble on the floor Lewis “The” Coward ran behind the pavilion whilst things calmed down, and it was left to referee Andy to step in restore order with a yellow card for the angry man from Lilley Rangers.
With 1 minute to go there was still time for drama. A well struck Lilley free kick swerved past the Knebworth defenders and was turned in at the far post. Having fixed James’ boiler on Saturday, linesman Dave Knights came to the rescue again, spotting a clear offsite. Though Lilley disagreed somewhat.
Decent result, maybe we are not as bad as Lilley thought we were, but we still struggle to create and convert!
