Reserves into Greg Cup final four
Knebworth progressed to the semi finals of the Greg Cup in a thrilling cup tie. Raja Tandoori man of the match: Charlie Pratt
James Tizard and Max Whittle secured the win but the men in orange had to battle to secure a place in the final four.
The Ks started brightly and enjoyed a long spell in control of the game, taking a 13th minute lead. Jack Gilbert, back from Hertford Town U23s, was a constant thorn in Wheathampstead’s side and found the run of Tizard who burst into the box and lashed the ball into the net.
The home side should have doubled their advantage just after the half-hour mark when the ball fell loose inside the six yard box after Charlie Pratt’s free kick was superbly palmed away. Shortly before the break, Wheathampstead saw a goal ruled out for offside and their protests continued for the rest of the afternoon.
Knebworth took a firmer grip just before the hour when Whittle headed home Louis Gilbert’s cross. Frank Buckler set up a tense finish by pulling
a goal back for the visitors with 20 minutes left to play but the Ks defence held firm.
