Reserves into Bingham Cox cup semi
Knebworth brushed aside Cuffley on their way into the final four of the Bingham Cox cup. Raja Tandoori man of the match: Charlie Pratt
It took the hosts just 54 seconds to establish a lead they would not relinquish. Will Oram's cross found Matt Pring inside the Cuffley box, the winger took a touch and fired in the opener. It could've been 2-0 shortly afterwards when Charlie Pratt and Louis Gilbert linked up to supply Owen Todd on the right flank, he sent the ball flashing across the face of the Cuffley goal, begging for a finishing touch that didn't arrive.
Alfie Pettitt made the first of two outstanding saves as the visitors broke and forced a corner. The resulting set piece was defended and it was the Ks' turn to counter; Gilbert found the run of strike partner Pratt, whose deft first touch took his marker out of contention and he coolly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 2-0 after just 15 minutes.
A scrappy spell followed until a late flurry of openings in the final five minutes of the half; Pratt saw a well struck drive palmed away before Cuffley swept forward and Byron almost reduced the arrears with a low strike, only finding the side netting. In added time, the ball fell kindly for Oram six yards from goal but he blazed over when rippling the net seemed inevitable.
The Ks started the second half just as brightly as they had the first. Gilbert skipped through on goal from the kick off and drilled a low shot narrowly wide. Cuffley were barely able to get out of their half before Pratt evaded his marker and sent a teasing crossing into the visitors' box but this too went begging. It was almost the hour mark when Gilbert raced clear and rolled the ball into the net for his 26th goal of the season and Knebworth third of the afternoon. Cuffley had rare attacks which were well defended although Pettitt was at his sharpest to keep out another fine effort. Gilbert was once again the supplier for Pratt ten minutes from time as a looping through ball was dispatched across the goalkeeper and into the net. James Tizard completed the rout in the final minute by punishing Cuffley for affording him too much time and space on the edge of their box, with some spectators in the process of leaving to beat the rush missing out on his curled shot finding the corner of the net.
