On a welcome sunny day at the Park, Knebworth were able to field nine first team squad players, all keen to get some centre wicket practise under their belts, including skipper, Adam Sergeant, vice captain Shaun Robinson, opener fast bowler Charlie Randall and twins, Richard and James Leather, fresh from a winter playing cricket in Australia.
Knebworth restricted the visitors to 157 all out from slightly under their allotted 45 overs, with all bowlers chipping in. Particularly encouraging were two spells apiece from league openers Charlie Randall and James Leather. They were ably backed up by Harry Jerome and Richard Leather, who bowled especially tight spells, and the young off spin pairing of Jack Orchard and Bobby Orlandi.
A highlight in the field was a lightning catch, casually plucked from the air taken by from Robinson at first slip from the bowling of James Leather, plus three sharp run outs, showing that the early season fielding drills undertaken by the squad are already paying dividends.
In reply, Knebworth scored rapidly throughout in knocking off the runs in only 20 overs. Alex Axon started positively contributed 31, and was ably supported by Robinson with 21. Ryan Skeggs fell cheaply, chipping to midwicket for just 4, before Jerome (20 not out), and Sergeant with a commanding 62 not out from just 42 balls, including three big sixes, saw his side comfortably home.
