Knowle come out tops in local derby

Knowle visited local rivals Hampton looking to avenge the home defeat a month earlier and dent high flying Hampton's promotion hopes.

In a tight opening period Callum Ingram had the only shot of note from the edge of the area in the 10th minute and that was blocked well by the home defence.

The game turned in Knowle's favour in the 28th minute when the Hampton centre back was dismissed for a two footed tackle on Knowle's captain Steven Ruck. In the next few minutes both teams then had goals disallowed for offside. The game continued to be a tight affair with Hampton working hard off the ball to deny the visitors with Nathan Corry having the only clear cut effort in the remainder of the half and that was deflected wide for a corner.

Corry should have put Knowle ahead within 5 minutes of the restart as Ruck's cross was headed back across goal by George Seeley only for Corry to volley over from 5 yards. Then against the run of play in the 62nd minute Gavin Lamb sliced a clearance from a long range free kick over the head of Perry Cox in the Knowle goal to give the home team the lead. Within 3 minutes Knowle were level when Corry crossed from the right and Ruck volleyed home from 12 yards. Hampton's task got harder shortly after when their centre forward kicked out at Ruck after the ball had gone and he was shown a red card. As soon as the game restarted Knowle pushed forward and Ruck split the defence with a through ball for Corry to score from 12 yards.

Knowle made their numerical advantage pay and created chances whilst keeping the home sides efforts to the odd long range shot. Ruck's 30 yard free kick was well saved low to his left by the home keeper. Corry should have added to his tally but his effort from close range following a Ruck cross was blocked on the line by the keeper.

Randy Martinez's left foot effort from 30 yards was just over the bar. Torryn Connelly then had his 5 yard effort blocked on the line. Corry ran through 1 on 1 with the home keeper but was unable to convert the chance before finally in the 6th minute of added time he did double his tally after slotting home after Ruck had again split the home defence. In the dying moments of the game Hampton's centre back also received his marching orders after tangling with Ruck.

The win moves Knowle up to 5th in the league and they next face Northfield at home at 2pm on Saturday.
