Report by Steve Hope
With the verbals kept in check superbly by the robust umpiring of Richie Holah, Knutsford started the brighter and were unlucky not to be ahead through the lively front 3 of Nairn, Pass & Lynes Jnr, after 20 minutes of attractive pass & move hockey straight out of the Trenners text book. Lynes Snr came on for Hope at RB & Lasham replaced Nairn at RW and within minutes Knutsford were ahead through a poached Mat Lynes finish. Runcorn were not out of it though and they started to advance threateningly once or twice. Yr 10 Jack Pass
was solid again rebuffing a couple of short corners, but unluckily some 'pinball' in the D led to a deflected equaliser off Beefy's stick.
1-1 at half time, just about the fair scoreline.
Knutsford started the second half strongly however and were confident of dominating more of the play. This was largely achieved through the strength of Heath, Howarth & Stanier rolling back the years to the days of the 'Knutsford young farmers hockey' of their youth. Indeed after 5 mins Karl manufactured some space for himself at top D to slap a lifting ball into the net. 2-1.
Ollie Lasham then received the ball at LW and started to run at the Runcorn defence. After beating 3 merseysiders and dribbling 20 yards at pace he crashed the ball past the keeper. Possible goal of the season that one!
continued to skip down the wing like a will'o the wisp; he slapped the ball square to Henry Pass
who with his back to goal fed Dave Rees
who prodded home number 4. Two minutes later Dave Hough made it 5, after covering every blade of AstroTurf again this afternoon.
Next Saturday the 3s travel to Triton attempting to maintain their 100% record.
