When Lanark Rugby Club played Bishopton in October they had to come from behind in the closing minutes to win by their narrowest margin of the season with an 18 – 15 score line.
At the racecourse on Saturday it was a very different story. In rampant form the home side ran in a total of eleven tries ending with the score 69 – 12.
Thanks to some very good work from the Lanark Forwards securing solid ball, Lanark’s backs were in sparkling form scoring five tries in the first half and six in the second. Sure handling, good inter passing and support play with speed, were the order of the day.
Bishopton struggled to stem the flow when Lanark were in possession but up front when keeping the ball tight they made progress and to their credit ended both halves having the Lanark line under pressure scoring a try with the final move of the game.
The tries scorers were Andrew Angus (3), Markis McCaig (2), Euan Scott, Steve McKeown, Ruaraidh McLatchie, Marcus Fraser, Scott Imray, and Iain Hughes. Hughes’ solo effort got the biggest cheer of the day, when the back’s senior member made his break near the halfway line and had to outpace a chasing pack to get his touch down. He added seven conversions for his total of 19 points for the day.
With Lanark’s next league fixture is on the 31st March, 3pm kick off when they are away to Strathclyde Police. There will be a coach going through to Lochinch please let us know if you want to attend. Please email us for details.
