Hawick win the 97th Langholm 7's sponsored by EWM

Gala beaten in the Final

Congratulations to Hawick RFC who this afternoon won the 97th playing of the Langholm Rugby 7's Competition.

After the overnight and early morning rain the sun cam out to what ended up being a glorious afternoon for playing 7's.

Kelso and Edinburgh Accies opened up proceedings with Kelso victorious while Gala dispatched the Pigbarians with ease- who are fundraising for Movemeber!

A very youthful looking Melrose beat Peebles in the first round while long distance visitors Orkney were edged out by Selkirk.

In the bottom half of the draw the Presidents VII & the Langholm Select VII played out a free scoring tie with the Select VII victorious while The Greens from up the road in Hawick beat Dumfries.

A strong looking Jed team beat Watsonians while the host Langholm won thier first sevens tie in three years with victory over Berwick, Captain Steven Nicol scoring two of the three tries.

In the quarter finals Gala stepped up a gear a easily beat Kelso and Melrose beat Selkirk.

Hawick, looking to get over last weeks defeat in the Premiership Final, beat the Select VII and host Langholm were knocked out by Jed-Forest.

The first semi final saw Gala beat local rivals Melrose and Hawick beat Jed in another fiercely contested semi final.

The crowd were then entertained by the skills of the P4 & P5 teams at the interval before the final as Hawick were looking for their first Competition win since 2012 whiel Gala hadnt won at Langholm since 1998.

In a closely contested final the lead changed hands numerous times as Hawick led 12-7 at half time, but Gala pulled it back to lead 19-12.

Hawick then equalised and added another try ont he final whistle to take the Scott Trophy 24-19.

Lee Armstrong of Hawick was named the player of the tournament by the Competition Officials.
