Youth Section recognises success

On Friday 1st May Langholm Youth section celebrated the 2014-15 season with their annual awards evening. The night was a great success and attended by a large number of players from across the age ranges along with a good turnout of parents to support them. The evening saw each of the coaches, who coach a different age group team give a run down on their season including the highs and any notable performances. This was followed by the presentation of the trophies by sponsor of the Langholm RFC youth section; Mr Ronnie Tait.

The S1 to S3 teams of Langholm Youth Rugby have gratefully benefitted from the use of the 3G artificial surface at the Academy. Where in the past training would have been cancelled due to adverse weather or heavy going underfoot, the boys have been able to practice on a fully floodlit state-of-the-art playing field. This has enabled the boys to train at a higher level with greater intensity where, in particular, their handling skills have shown vast improvement.

This group of players has enjoyed additional sessions by the Club Development Officer at the Academy, where the school has been able to field teams for the first time in a number of years for both boys and girls age groups. Through this avenue the S1-S3 teams have seen a gradual increase attending training as the season continued.

With the Academy also boasting a modern up-to-date fitness suite to go along with the excellent training facilities therein lies a great opportunity to promote the game of rugby within Langholm.
