P4s end season on a real high!
Great effort sees them narrowly miss out on final place
P4's ended the season on a high-note and almost made the final of a tournament for the first time. It was an early start on Sunday for the long journey to Peebles, but the problem that has plagued P4 all season did not materialise this time. First up was the Borders Barbarians made up from Peebles, Gala and Biggar, the boys started so well I don't think the opposition new what had hit them and were 10-0 up at half time, this gave coach Mark Grieve the opportunity to rest some players and give others more game time and they made the most of their chance although conceding 4 tries scored another 2 and won the match 12-4. Try scorers Callum Jeffrey 5, Thomas Coates 3, Daniel Grieve 3, and Ryan Johnstone 1. Next up was Biggar who had already beaten us at the Melrose tournament, but the boys started like a train again and were soon in control of the game 6-2 at half time. Biggar came back into the game in the second half to get back to 6-4, but the highlight of the game was a try from behind his own try line by Thomas Coates and then Daniel Grieve finished them off pouncing on a loose pass from Biggar after another thumping Callum Jeffrey tackle, so another win 8-4. Try scorers Daniel Grieve 3, Ryan Johnstone 2, Thomas Coates 2, and Callum Jeffrey. So onto the final game and again it was against Gala and the winner would progress to the final, it was a game that was no different to the one two weeks before with scoring from both sides and tackling like you have never seen before, unfortunately as before the result was to be the same with Gala winning 6-4. Try scorers Thomas Coates 2, Callum Jeffrey 1 and Ryan Johnstone. All credit to the players of both sides who seem to bring the best out in each other and Gala went on to win the cup, beating Kelso in the final. All in all a great first season of playing rugby for the P4's and if we continue to play against the best sides such as Hawick, Gala, and Melrose it is only a matter of time before we beat them and challenge for trophies.
