Fours run Wotton close (but no cigar)
The second successive game for the Fours against a top 3 team was far closer than last week – and some might say we were unlucky not to get a draw.
A hard fought match against a strong and organised Wotton team ultimately ended in a narrow 2-1 defeat.
With some of the regulars away with the GB ski team, we gave debuts this week to Henry Edwards and Will Winder. Well done to both of you – good solid efforts and I hope you enjoyed it.
Not sure what to say about the game – I think we took them a bit by surprise and you could see the relief on their faces when they did eventually break through and score against us. (Twice).
Two-nil at half time then, but we felt we were doing the right things – needed to be a little quicker moving the ball on maybe, but we were positive.
Our second half efforts were rewarded with Will Carr waltzing through into the D and placing it nicely inside the left hand post. Try as we might though we couldn’t get the equaliser and so had to settle for “nul-point”.
Maybe we were saving ourselves for the oft-postponed expedition to Hereford, the second half of our double-header this weekend?
Special thanks to Dave White for umpiring with a major leg wound inflicted by Lydney in the preceding 2’s game.
Biggest surprise of the day – the teas for the away team included quiche……
