The weather may have been cold and dull but the day was brightened up not only by the umpires canary hoodies but by the enthusiasm of the young players .Colinsburgh, Elie, Kirkton of Largo, Lundin Mill, Strathkinness and a very friendly and civilised Barbarians team took part playing four matches each. The youngsters were able to show the skills they had gained during their 5 weeks coaching by Fife Cricket Trust coach, ex-Largo player , Scottish u19 international Ryan Brown.
After 3 matches it was clear that the winners would emerge from the fourth round - a local derby match between Lundin(last years winners) and Kirkton.. Both had won their 3 matches.
First class bowling was the highlight of what was effectively a low scoring final each team taking 5 wickets. Kirkton however emerged as winners by 18 runs in a very close match. While both teams showed great skills and put in a huge effort the cricketing experience of Kirkton's captain Ben Michie backed up by his senior adviser Tristan Bleak, both Largo CC regulars, clearly showed.
A BIG "Well Done" to all players from all of the schools for what was a great fun day of cricket.
Kirkton of Largo now progress to the Fife finals at Falkland where Lundin Mill lifted the trophy last year. .
