1st Team

On Saturday in Edinburgh the short-handed Largo 1st.XI went down to a comprehensive defeat at the hands of top of the table Kirk Brae. Batting first Largo's 9 men could only muster 66 runs which the opposition knocked off in quick order for the loss of one wicket. Although they have avoided relegation to Division 3 this season has been an uphill battle for the 1st.XI largely due to a perfect storm of availability problems which seem to have dogged the club this year. With a full squad available next season the team should get back to showing the steady form it did in the 2015 season

Largo 2s complete the great escape - Largo 2s 156-8 (40 overs); Edinburgh Accies 2s 152 all out (30.3 overs)

In the final league game of the season, Largo 2nd XI hosted Edinburgh Accies 2s in a match which had great importance at both ends of the ESCA Division 5 table. Largo needed at least seven points to avoid relegation while Accies also needed seven points to clinch the league title. Accies won the toss and put Largo into bat. Largo openers Dom Coates and William Naismith made a positive start on an excellent East Drive pitch and in ideal weather conditions. Their partnership was ended when Coates was caught and bowled by Khan for 13. Naismith was joined by David Galloway who batted very fluently and appeared to be heading for a big score until he was caught at short third man for 23. Largo's batsmen made important contributions all the way down the order and eventually secured maximum batting points thanks to an 8th wicket partnership between captain Chris Baddeley and club president Dick Dakin.
Accies came out with all guns blazing and posted 50 inside the first six overs. Largo managed to apply the brakes on the Accies innings through the spin combination of Galloway and Chris Baddeley aided by an excellent fielding performance from the whole team. By the end of their 8 over spells, Largo had removed Accies captain Seghal for a blistering 39 and taken 5 further wickets. Victory still seemed well within Accies' reach, but U15 bowlers Nick Baddeley and Jack Eglinton mopped up the remaining Accies wickets to secure a 4 run victory for Largo. The 20 points from this enthralling game enabled Largo to avoid relegation. Congratulations to Accies who, by picking up 9 points, deservedly secured promotion to Division 4 as league champions.

SPCU Sunday Team v Dunnikier

Following Largo's thrilling win in their last league game of the season, the club's Sunday team headed to Dunnikier hoping to repeat Saturday's success. This was not to be, but the outcome of the game was in doubt until the very end! The home side batted first and were largely indebted to captain Ashgar Ali's score of 52 in scoring a challenging total of 144. Father and son Howard and Ben Coates took the catching honours while fielding, with two catches each, while junior Harvey Saddler showed promise in a five over spell. Largo's "death " bowler Dakin surprised even himself in taking two wickets in the final over!
After a slow start to the Largo innings, Dakin (25)and Coates senior made encouraging progress in pursuit of Dunnikier's total but on Dakin's dismissal both Coates junior and Nick Baddeley (two of the side's main batting hopes) fell cheaply and the scoring rate dropped sharply. It was left to Ian Brown to put Largo's challenge back on track which he did in a fine swashbuckling innings of 41, leaving Largo with an outside chance of victory. However both Howard Coates (21) and skipper Caddick soon lost their wickets and despite a quick fire innings by Blair, the Largo chase came to an end just 7 runs short of the Dunnikier total.
