Larks win bragging rights in Somerset derby

The Larks squeaked past local rivals Paulton Rovers today in the first ever Southern League encounter between the two sides.

In an entertaining contest played out in front of the biggest gate so far this season, the home side dominated the first half, with two fine strikes from recent returnee Joe Tumelty giving us a deserved 2-0 lead at the break. Paulton must have had some serious hairdryer action at half-time, for they narrowed the deficit to 2-1 only moments after the restart, then equalised with about half an hour to go. The final stages of the game were closely fought and either side could have scored the decider. Fortunately it was Larks' sub Josh Egan who made it count with a low drive as the clock was running down.

This was a gritty team performance; the Larks worked hard to retain the advantage late on and having spurned a few chances in the first half, deserved the win. Man of the match could have gone to pretty much anyone but was conferred on Kyle Tooze, who made the difference when it really mattered in the second half.

The result takes the Larks to a highly respectable 9th in the table, with 9 points from 6 league games played.
