A point at Yate

In a topsy-turvy game the Larks showed great character to come back from a 2-0 deficit and nearly snatch a winner at the death.

All seemed well in the first half. Although they were lacking that cutting edge, the visitors were dominating play and were unlucky not to be in the lead, the Bluebells' keeper Harvey Rivers having pulled off a fine save to stop Joe Raynes' strike. Alex Lambert was once again a constant threat, Joe Tumelty's cross prompted Rivers into action, and Greg Peel was holding his own in the box.

Yate must have received quite a half-time team talk, for they were ahead within a couple of minutes. Their centre forward Jack Ball easily found space to fire past Shaun Semmens. The Larks looked done for only moments later as a defensive mix-up saw Trey Anderson take advantage of an unguarded goal to double the lead.

The final twenty minutes of the game were a different story, Two important substitutions changed the game completely: Stuart Tovey bolstered the defence, allowing our forwards and midfield players - and even our centre halves - to surge forward. Ben Brooks announced his arrival on the pitch almost immediately when he nodded home from close range thanks to a Joe Tumelty cross. Brooksy then turned provider as he launched the ball into the box where defender Ed Dryden charged out of nowhere to make it 2-2.

Thereafter it was one-way traffic as the Larks went on the hunt for a winner. Ed was denied a second time thanks to a goalline clearance, Matt Guy also forced a last-ditch stop, Neil Arndale had a shot on target, and right at the end a Jamie Lyons free kick was nearly turned into his own net by Yate's number 10.
