Victory against Marine

The Larks concluded the season in a solid mid-table position thanks to a lively win against Wiltshire neighbours Swindon Supermarine, who had until recently been challenging for the play-offs.

Although the home defence were called into action within the first couple of minutes it was the Larks who snatched the lead somewhat against the run of play as Alex Lambert headed the ball into the net off a Neil Arndale free kick.

Marine got one back within ten minutes as an unsighted Shaun Semmens was left stranded and Josh Parsons fired home from close range. The away side continued to press and were unlucky not to go ahead, missing the target a number of times, but the home side also had cause to complain as a penalty shout for a tug in the box on Joe Tumelty came to nothing. Then the Larks conjured some more magic as a short corner taken by Joe Raynes flew into the box, and Arnie worked the ball forwards to enable Ben Brooks to volley home to put us 2-1 up on the stroke of half time.

The second half was more open and both sides spurned opportunities to score, but the Larks got their decisive third goal as Brooksy collected, turned and nicely finished from a Joe Tumelty cross into the box. Thereafter Marine failed to take advantage of their chances and the Larks - with an assured performance from sub Dan Restorick late on - defended well to seal the win.
