Tivvy beaten by moment of class

The Larks saw out a win against Tiverton Town despite having a man rather harshly sent off with over 35 minutes to play.

This was a lively, competitive game, verging on the fractious at times. Tivvy were playing a fluent game but missed a couple of chances in the first half, as did the Larks, and on the whole it was a fairly even first period.

The game opened up in the second half with both sides battling for supremacy. The single goal came on the 60th minute when Joe Raynes launched a superb free kick into the Tivvy box, and centre-half Mike Jones leapt forward and headed unstoppably into the net.

Tivvy huffed and puffed thereafter, and Stuart Tovey saw red only moments after the goal, but the Larks fought brilliantly to keep their opponents at bay. Honourable mention must go to subs Dan Restorick and Lewis Russell, who did very well to hold the ball up and help their team-mates retain all three points, and to man of the match Dean Griffiths, who switched from centre-forward to centre-half where he performed valiantly.

Tomorrow evening we travel to Shortwood for a twice-postponed fixture, then the last league game of the season is on Saturday at home v Cinderford Town, who may already have been crowned league champions by then. A big crowd is expected so get there early!

Up the Larks!
