Lasswade put in a terrific performance today to beat their local rivals and win our second league game in a row.
The boys knew they had to work hard from the off against Dalkeith’s big pack and the forwards did just that. Throughout the game we performed very well in the scrum and breakdown and won lots of good ball for the backs. Our backs had worked hard in training on their set plays and it was great to see them put these into practise throughout the game.
Thanks to forward pressure Sam was first to go over after some good driving work on the Dalkeith line. Harry was on fine form with his kicking today and kept Dalkeith pinned in their own half. A scrum 5 gave number eight Shaun a chance to pick up and drive forward. He offloaded to scrum-half Cam B who in turn gave a great Sonny Ball offload for Cammy M to finish in the corner. Harry popped over a great conversion for a 12 point lead.
Our defence was solid throughout the game with the only blip an offside in front of the posts which allowed Dalkeith to take a 3 point penalty.
Harry then started another great move as he ghosted forwards after we had another strong scrum. After gaining 20 yards he offloaded to Matty D who ran in strongly to finish under the posts.
After another Harry conversion we were 17-3 up at the break.
On the second half we again worked hard in the forwards with Keiran, Euan and Bear making some great breaks. Some good hands out wide allowed Scott to beat 2 men to finish under the posts.
Our final points came from quick thinking Shaun who, like last week, was the sharpest around the breakdown to finish from 5 yards out.
As we approached stoppage time we nearly had the try of the day. We won ball in the Dalkeith half and Euan took off taking the ball forwards. The ball was then popped up, passed and offloaded through about 10 pairs of hands before Cammy Watt’s unselfish offload was fumbled on the line.
Final score 29-3.
We played another 10 minutes development which saw Jack finishing strongly and Cammy M scoring after some great wing play.
So overall a great effort by all the boys who played some good rugby and scored some good team tries. Kenny and I have had some great help from first-teamers Rory and James in recent weeks and it’s clear the boys have taken on board what they have been taught. It just proves that by working hard in training it pays dividends in matches!
