Despite frost and snow in Midlothian, our Eastern neighbours had no such problems as we headed to Dunbar’s heavy but perfectly playable pitch.
It’s a good thing our scrum is so strong as for the first ten minutes we had umpteen of them as pass after pass was fumbled on both sides. Perhaps the understandable excuse being frozen fingers but as we warmed up we started to put some moves together. After several attempts on the Dunbar line we had a penalty 5 yards out. After practicing this week for such an occurrence, the training paid off and Sam barged over, supported by the forwards, for our first score.

In the second half we dominated further and after the backs worked the ball well up the field, Paul Wilson drove through a ruck of bodies on the line to ground the ball. Martin then slotted a lovely conversion to give as a 12-0 lead. Soon after it was Shaun’s turn to again show the power of our pack to dive over from close range.
We then had a chance for another training ground move with a lineout 10 yards from the line. Hooker Paul made the right call and Sam took the short lineout ball to carry the ball past the Dunbar winger to touch down.
Our final score of the main game was another Sam special as he took off deep in our own half to charge through the tiring Dunbar defence to close the game out 27-0.

In the development period it was great to see Aaron get his first try for the team as he pounced on a loose ball at the breakdown and beat two defenders to ground the ball on the line. Oscar then slotted a great conversion as the ball crept over the ball from out wide.
The final score gave big Sam his 4th try of the afternoon after another cracking run to score under the posts. This allowed Martin to slot his second conversion of the day. Credit to Dunbar however who battled away and were rewarded with their own score with a great run down the wing by one of their backs.

So a top performance from our forwards today who worked hard and scored all our tries. The backs however also showed great commitment and constantly put the Dunbar defence under pressure and prevented any attacks.
There were a couple of bad head knocks for Kieran and Cammy B today who had a visit to A&E for a check up. Thankfully only bumps to their foreheads and a few stitches for Cam means they will be back playing soon.
