Unfortunately, however, the path to the trophy was made so much more easier by the withdrawal of two of the four competing teams, Dunbar and Heriots.
It was duly agreed between Dalkeith and ourselves to play each other in three twenty minute games. This way, it would determine who would be worthy winners to collect the trophy.It was soon clear that there was only ever going to be one winner.
Game 1. Dalkeith 0 Lasswade 5
A brace of tries by Daniel Shanks, followed by one a piece from Daniel Sutherland
, Thomas and Logan.
Game 2. Dalkeith 4 Lasswade 8
Open play improved significantly, and the ball found its way to the wide areas more often. This allowed Euan in for a hat-trick, Daniel Shanks with another pair. The margin was increased by Sutherland, Fraser and John.
Game 3. Dalkeith 3 Lasswade 6
Logan rounded off a very effective shift, touching down twice. The rest of the tries coming from Euan, Daniel Shanks, Fraser and John who finished off a great move where Kami off-loaded the ball beautifully to the oncoming forward.
A great day all round. Some of the best rugby seen for a while, enjoyed in great sunshine. Once again, well done to all the players and to the ever present supporting parents and grandparents.
