Select Fixtures & Results for what's on for all age groups
Lasswade Rugby Football Club runs a thriving mini rugby section comprising boys and girls from Primary P1 (age 5 min) to P7. We are always on the look out for new recruits to take part in weekly training sessions and competitive matches. Our season runs from the end of August through to May and our current fixtures can be found by selecting Fixtures and Selections.
We meet on Sunday’s for either training sessions or competitive matches against other clubs from in and around the Edinburgh area. Sunday training takes place on the adjacent 3G Astroturf surface for which training shoes and simple sports clothes are needed.
Training sessions are undertaken by our qualified coaches and consist of SRU approved drills and routines designed to introduce the basic skills required for rugby in a safe and enjoyable environment. All children are guaranteed a game, regardless of ability.
Times
Sunday Training – 11am – 12:30pm
Wednesday Training (P4-P7) – 6pm – 7pm. (Not through Dec-Feb)
Cost
There are no weekly fees however parents or guardians are asked to take out an annual Associate Membership of the club at a cost of £50.
Game Types
P1-3 For the younger children we play a mainly non-contact version of the sport. This will be in the form of touch or tag-rugby where the emphasis is on basic handling skills, running with the ball, playing as a team and basic game concepts. The P3s will also be able to take part in several friendly matches throughout the year.
P4-5 The children are introduced to full contact rugby with tackling below the waist allowed on opponents who must carry the ball in both hands, a rule enforced from P1 up to S1 level.
P6-7 Here basic scrummaging and line-out skills are taught. Both are in their un-contested form with limited players to ensure the skills are learnt in a safe manner. Kicking is also introduced where players are allowed to clear from within their 5 metre line.
