RHC festival round-up
P7's shine in the sun at RHC
P7’s shine at RHC festival
On a sunny and calm day at Barnton the P7’s were in fine form as they won 3 matches out of 3 at the RHC festival. The boys produced some nice flowing rugby as they defeated RHC, Haddington and also Forrester.
First up were the hosts RHC who in recent years have matched up pretty well against the Lasswade boys. In the early exchanges Lasswade took a 1-0 lead but were slow off the mark defensively and RHC who had a couple of very strong runners took advantage to twice come back and equalise. Once the lightning boys realised it could be close if they were slack defensively they tightened up and started to apply more pressure both at the breakdown and in open play. This pressure eventually told and through a series of forced errors from RHC and also some fantastic offloading Lasswade ran out winners by 8 tries to 2.
Next up were Haddington who could only field a squad of 8 on the day. Lasswade were lucky enough o have a squad of 13 for the day and Gavin and Nick graciously volunteered to play for Haddington to even up the teams and make a real game of it. Nick and Gavin both made their mark on the Haddington team which also had some strong runners. Once again Lasswade defended well and took their opportunities well and came away with a good 3-1 victory.
In the final game of the day Forrester fielded a mixed P6/7 team so the boys played with the same laws as last season. Lasswade’s defence was now working well and were pressuring Forrester into lots of handling errors. Again this pressure turned into good possession for Lasswade which the boys done well to convert into some excellent scores. Final score 6-1.
The boys have been working hard in training recently and showed they have been putting that work to good use with some excellent defensive work, strong play at the breakdown and offloading in the tackle. All the boys played well and credit has to go to Lucas and Gavin for their unselfish offloading play while Ethan, James and Olly were elusive as ever. Scott, Finlay, Lennon all put in some great hits and Nick, Murray and Sam were always a threat when carrying ball into the contact situation.
Credit also has to go to both Luke and Shaun who were playing in their first ever rugby matches. Luke made some good passes and will gain confidence from a few more games and Shaun made some good runs and also capped it off with a good score against Forrester.
The coaches are delighted that the boys have made such a strong start to the season and are sure if the high level of effort being shown continues then the boys will have a great season.
